If a claim has no source, it does not ship.

Redwood Reach Group builds messaging and communications programmes for organisations across British Columbia. Every claim in every message we write is traced to a source, and anything we cannot source is labelled an assertion and removed before the work goes out.

Our Position

Marketing copy is built on unsourced claims.

"Industry-leading." "Trusted by thousands." "Faster than the alternatives." Each of these is a factual claim presented as a stylistic flourish, and in most organisations nobody can say where any of them came from. They were written once, approved because they sounded right, and have been copied forward for years.

The exposure is real and rising. Canadian competition law has sharpened considerably on unsubstantiated claims, and "we have always said that" is not a defence. But the more immediate cost is that a message nobody can source cannot be defended in a hard interview or a procurement question.

So we build a ladder for every message: the claim, the proof beneath it, and the evidence beneath that. Anything that reaches the bottom without a source is labelled an assertion and cut. On a typical audit we cut between a fifth and a third of what an organisation is currently saying about itself.

"Industry-leading" is a factual claim wearing the costume of a stylistic choice.

How We Work

We cut your favourite line

On a typical audit we cut a fifth to a third of what an organisation says about itself. That usually includes a line somebody wrote, is fond of, and has used for years. It is the least popular deliverable we produce.

Sources are attached to the framework. Not held by us. A marketing hire in two years can check any claim rather than inheriting it on faith.

Canadian claim substantiation is tightening. We are communications consultants and not lawyers, and where a claim carries regulatory risk we say so and recommend counsel.

Method

Four stages.

01

Collect

Everything you currently say, across every channel and document.

02

Ladder

Each claim taken down to proof and then to evidence.

03

Cut

Anything unsourced labelled an assertion and removed.

04

Attach

Sources delivered with the framework, dated and checkable.

Who We Serve

BC organisations and public bodies

Technology companies, health organisations, Crown corporations, municipalities, and industry associations across Metro Vancouver, Victoria, and the Interior.

Engagements from about $24,000 to $210,000 CAD, fixed fee against written scope.

We decline roughly one enquiry in four, usually where an organisation wants a message framework but not the audit that would remove claims it is attached to.

Clients

What they report.

They cut "trusted by thousands" and replaced it with our real client count. The real number reads better and cannot be challenged.
Client of Redwood Reach Group
VP MarketingTechnology company
Our submission went to a provincial committee with every claim sourced. The questions we got were about policy, not about our numbers.
Client of Redwood Reach Group
Director of CommunicationsIndustry association
They removed about a quarter of our website copy. I argued for two weeks and they were right about all of it.

Where did your homepage claim come from?

If nobody knows, it is an assertion, and it can be challenged.
